Emerging Church and the Jesus People Movement Compared

Roger Olson, whom I’ve been reading a lot recently, posted some interesting reflections comparing the Emerging Church Movement (in N. America) with the Jesus People Movement of the 70’s. Some good food for thought. I particularly like his last quote, which he gives as a cautionary note rather than a judgment:

“We think our fathers fools, so wise we grow. Our wiser sons, no doubt, will think us so.” (Alexander Pope)

A while back, I published an article that compared the emerging church to the life and ministry of John Wesley. It argued that the two movements resonate with each other, but also that Wesley offers some helpful perspective and constructive criticism (without taking away from the good things the emerging church is doing). A revised form of that article is available here: https://patrickfranklin.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/wesley_emerging-church_onlinejuly2010.pdf
